I’m Not Here to Look Pretty
2025
I’m Not Here to Look Pretty comes from a phrase I’ve repeated since childhood and throughout years spent working in male-dominated jobs. It is both an assertion and a question about how I show up in the world, how I am judged, and why a woman’s appearance so often becomes a measure of her value. Written and embroidered repeatedly by hand across porcelain and cotton, the phrase eventually gives way to “I just am…” with the needle still attached.
