For centuries handkerchiefs have been imbued with meaning, status, sentimentality and function. Girls were taught to embroider handkerchiefs as part of their dowry. In the depression, it was one of the few items a woman could buy to update her look. Literature references how handkerchiefs were used by lovers to communicate. With so much history, a handkerchief is more than a mere scrap of fabric. This series is a work in progress adding my own twist to such a weighty object.
