For centuries handkerchiefs have been imbued with meaning, status, sentimentality and function. Girls were taught to embroider handkerchiefs as part of their dowry. In the depression, it was one of the few items a woman could buy to update her look. Literature references how handkerchiefs were used by lovers to communicate. With so much history, a handkerchief is more than a mere scrap of fabric. This series is a work in progress adding my own twist to such a weighty object as I follow it's lead down separate paths.

Bless Your Heart Series
The Bless Your Heart Series was made for the Arts and Science Council Community Supported Art Program. Fifty pieces were made in total.
This piece, much like the phrase, "bless your heart" is not as sugary sweet as it appears.
The Hummel Series is a personal one reminding me of my German family and all the colorful sayings they love.
Bible Verse Series
The Bible Verse Series shines a light on some of the less inspiring verses, especially toward women.
When It's Not Happily Ever After Wedding Handkerchief Series
The When It's Not Happily Ever After Wedding Handkerchief Series explores the power of words in domestic abuse.
