Handkerchiefs

For centuries handkerchiefs have been imbued with meaning, status, sentimentality and function. Girls were taught to embroider handkerchiefs as part of their dowry. In the depression, it was one of the few items a woman could buy to update her look. Literature references how handkerchiefs were used by lovers to communicate. With so much history, a handkerchief is more than a mere scrap of fabric. This series is a work in progress adding my own twist to such a weighty object as I follow it's lead down separate paths.

Bless Your Heart Series

The Bless Your Heart Series was made for the Arts and Science Council Community Supported Art Program. Fifty pieces were made in total.

​This piece, much like the phrase, "bless your heart" is not as sugary sweet as it appears.
